RR vs PBKS, IPL 2021: Big blow to Rajasthan Royals, David Miller, Mustafizur Rahman to miss opening contest against Punjab Kings- In yet another blow to Rajasthan Royals, South Africa batsman David Miller and Bangladesh pace spearhead Mustafizur Rahman are set to miss the opening clash against Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 12.

Miller left SA for India on April 5 and reached India the next day. As per BCCI protocols, all the players need to undergo a mandatory quarantine at the team hotel before joining the camp. He had left South Africa squad after 2nd ODI on April 5 against Pakistan along with teammates Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje (DC), Quinton de Kock and Lungi Ngidi.

While Miller, Rabada and Nortje will complete their quarantine on April 12, Quinton de Kock had opted for a bubble to bubble transfer. Meanwhile, CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has confirmed that Lungi Ngidi will their straight second IPL 2021 match.

As per BCCI’s SOPs for IPL 2021, all players, support staff, and management entering the bubble need to undergo a seven-day quarantine in their hotel rooms. Every individual will be tested multiple times during this period, and upon returning the negative results, they will be allowed to come out of their rooms and commence outdoor training and practice sessions.

Mustfizur Rahman had also entered the quarantine at Rajasthan Royals team hotel on April 5. He is set to complete the quarantine in the early hours of April 12. But, without any practice, it is highly unlikely to play the opening match.

Rajasthan Royals have already lost the services of their strike bowler Jofra Archer. David Miller is known to play a key role in the middle order. He has amassed 1,850 runs in 80 IPL matches, which also features a 38-ball century and 9 fifties.

On the other hand, Mustafizur Rahman’s absence will also add salt to the wounds as Rajasthan Royals have to rely on Andrew Tye, Chris Morris and inexperienced Kartik Tyagi among pacers.
