DC vs MI, IPL 2021: Can Mumbai Indians big four fire together?

DC vs MI in IPL 2021: Mumbai Indians will enter as the favourites when they face Delhi Capitals in their penultimate match of Chennai leg on Tuesday. The Rohit Sharma-led side have got the better of Rishabh Pant’s side four times in their last five encounters and would like the keep the winning run going. But there is a problem.

Unlike the previous encounters, Mumbai’s “Big Four” in Rohit, Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya are struggling with consistency. Although the defending champions have won two out of three games, it is thanks to superb bowling display rather than batting heroics.

They would want their batting line-up to find form quick and perform together to beat a confident Delhi.

DC vs MI in IPL 2021: How has Mumbai Indians’ Big Form performed?

Rohit has got starts and he would be keen to convert it into a big one and so would be Quinton de Kock. Rohit’s best performance came against Kolkata Knights Riders, where he scored an impressive 43 off 22 balls. de Kock, on the other hand, touched the 40-mark in the last game. However, the concern is consistency. Both the batmen are a vital cog to Mumbai’s explosive batting line-up. However, they have struggled a bit this season, especially Rohit. It has been long since the Mumbai skipper has played a big knock and would be eager to deliver.

Suryakumar is the only top-order batsman who continues to perform. But the lack of support from the other end has put pressure on him too. SKY started his IPL 2021 season strongly scoring 31 off 23 vs RCB, followed by 56 off 36 balls vs KKR. However, he could not continue the form in the third game where he was sent backpacking for just 10 runs.

The likes of Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya and his brother Krunal, who can pummel any attack into submission on their day, but they are yet to fire on all cylinders.

After the last game, Rohit had conceded that his team “can bat a little better in the middle overs.”

DC vs MI in IPL 2021: Bowling unit their biggest winning combination

The Mumbai bowlers, led by pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, have been splendid in the last two games when they successfully defended low scores of 150 and 152 respectively. Strike bowlers Bumrah (3 wickets) and New Zealander Trent Boult (6 wickets) have been exceptional at the death.

Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar, whom bowling coach Shane Bond described as a “wicket-taking bowler”, has grabbed seven wickets in the last two games.

Another important cog in the wheel is left-arm spinner Krunal, who would be itching to give his team breakthroughs.

Mumbai would want to take a cue from Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) who ended their Chennai leg on a high note, courtesy of an in form middle-order batting line up.
