IPL 2021: Dawid Malan will not play against MUmbai Indians.

IPL 2021- PBKS Playing XI vs MI: After an embarrassing nine-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings will need to go back to the drawing board to reassess their strategy for the upcoming clash against Mumbai Indians. While there will be changes in the approach, there will be no changes in PBKS Playing XI vs MI. Assistant coach Andy Flower when asked about the possibility of choosing Dawid Malan over struggling Nicholas Pooran said it is unlikely the world No.1 T20 batsman will play in Chennai. “We know David Malan is a real class player. He is got a lot of success in all formats including T20. He knows how to play the game. It’s great to have him in our squad and available as an option.

I think the timing of selection changes is very important. With a day in between these two games, I don’t think he would be in. But I am not the prime decision-maker. Anil (Kumble) and KL (Rahul) are. But I would imagine a similar line-up in two days time. We just need to play better“.

IPL 2021: Poor batting display by players

Punjab suffered a batting collapse against Hyderabad, courtesy of Khaleel Ahmed and Abhishek Sharma’s clinical display with the ball. Andy said the conditions were to bat today and David Warner and Jonny Bairstow adapted to it perfectly unlike Punjab batsmen.

“The batting conditions were tough. We knew it was going to be tough by looking at the pitch. It was dry, it was cracking already before the game even started.

“I don’t think we handled it well as good as we could have. We lost wickets early. And even though we had long batting until Fabian Allen at 8, we struggled to get a total that was going to test SRH.

“I think on a pitch like this, you gotta be canny about the way you operate. There ain’t gonna be any boundaries, certainly not like playing in Mumbai. So, we weren’t quite good enough to get a 140 or 150 on the pitch, which would have tested the opposition,” he said.

Punjab Kings will play Mumbai Indians on Friday in their last match in Chennai.
