MI vs KKR in IPL 2021 – MI Playing XI: Zaheer Khan reveals Mumbai Indians’ bowling composition for upcoming match Mumbai Indians Director of Cricket Operations Zaheer Khan gave a big hint about the composition of his team’s bowling attack in MI’s Playing XI vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for their second game.
One of the questions asked during the press conference was if veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla will make his debut for Mumbai Indians. While the former Indian pacer did not give any definite answer, he did inform that the move is being considered.
“Krunal bowled fantastically in the last game, Rahul Chahar is coming on his own. We also have experience in Piyush Chawla,” he stated. “Piyush Chawla’s experience will be valuable to us, going ahead in the tournament,” he added.
MI vs KKR in IPL 2021 – MI Playing XI: How will Piyush Chawla benefit Mumbai Indians?
The biggest problem MI face is in the spin department, something which again came to light during their first game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Lack of a wicket-taking spinning hurt their prospects against Virat Kohli’s side at the turning track of Chepauk.
Left-arm spinner Krunal had a decent outing against RCB, ending his spells with figures 1/25. But it is Rahul Chahar, who was a big concern for Rohit Sharma. The youngster was the costliest bowler for Mumbai and arguably the biggest difference between the two sides.
Furthermore, both the spinners are more of a restrictive option, and this is where Chawla comes in. The leggie has 156 wickets in the IPL, the third-highest for any bowler in the league’s history.
MI vs KKR in IPL 2021 – MI Playing XI: Quinton de Kock available for selection
Former India pacer confirmed that Quinton de Kock and Adam Milne will be available for the clash against KKR. “Quinton is out of his quarantine, he did his practice session yesterday with the team. Looking forward to the season, he will be available for tomorrow’s game,” he said.
De Kock had missed the first game as he was undergoing the mandatory week-long quarantine.
Mumbai had played Chris Lynn as Rohit’s opener, a move which did reap them fruits in Chennai. In his first game for Mumbai in two years, he scored an impressive 49 off 35 balls. If De Kock is rested for another game, MI is likely to stick with Lynn. “Chris Lynn is a great character to have in the dressing room,” Khan told the media at the PC.
MI vs KKR in IPL 2021 – MI Playing XI: Kieron Pollard as their sixth bowler
Speaking at a press conference on the eve of the match, Zaheer said that Mumbai Indians see Kieron Pollard as their sixth bowler and also hope for contributions from Hardik Pandya.
“Pollard is our sixth bowling option. He is an experienced campaigner in our squad. Also, Hardik too joins the fray whenever he resumes…Hardik as a whole package is of great value. You will see him bowl very soon,” Zaheer Khan said at the press conference.
He also praised youngster Marco Jansen for his performance in the first match.
“Marco is nice and relaxed. He made a good comeback on his IPL debut.”
Otherwise, Zaheer was happy with the environment in the team.
