Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul disappointed

IPL 2021 DC vs PBKS: Disappointed Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul says, changing the ball every two over will be fair after loss Shikhar Dhawan

IPL 2021, DC vs PBKS: Despite playing a fine knock of 61 off 51 balls, Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul was left disappointed as Delhi Capitals chased a 196-run target with 10 balls to spare to register an easy 6-wicket victory at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was especially disappointing as it was Rahul’s birthday. He said that the ball should be changed every two overs to avoid undue advantage to the batters in the second innings. Shikhar Dhawan starred in the match with a 49-ball 92.

Rahul was not happy with the conditions at Wankhede, especially with the ball getting wet with every stroke. The dew factor rendered experienced bowlers useless as they failed to maintain the line and length. Rahul agreed with the commentators who suggested that the ball should be changed every two overs to put a level playing field.

“Dew did sway things. Bowling second is always a challenge at the Wankhede. We always try to prepare for such conditions but it does get difficult in situations. I think it would be fair [the ball changes every two overs,] and I’m not just saying that because I’m on the losing side. I did ask the umpires to change the ball a couple of times but that’s not in the rules,” KL Rahul told the host broadcaster Star Sports in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Earlier, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal stitched together a 122-run opening partnership to help Punjab Kings post a 195-run total. Mayank scored 69 off 36 balls. But Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw gave Delhi Capitals a flying start, punishing every Punjab bowler in the process, especially an experienced Mohammed Shami, who went for 53 runs in his 4 overs.

However, KL Rahul, congratulated Shikhar Dhawan, his competitor in Team India’s opener role for the powerful knock.

“Shikhar batted well, so congratulations to them. When we come to Wankhede, bowling second is always a challenge. We prepare for such conditions. It does get difficult against these quality batters,” KL Rahul said.

“Victory would have been sweet, so it’s slightly disappointing. But we have a lot of games, so hopefully, we come back stronger and win few games. Right now it looks 10-15 runs short, but I think 190-odd looked good. I and Mayank thought 180-190 would have been great on this wicket,” Rahul added.
