IPL 2021 – RR vs PBKS LIVE Score: Samson-Buttler steady RR after two early blows – In a tough 222-run chase, Rajasthan Royals lost Ben Stokes in the first over as Mohammed Shami gave RR the crucial breakthrough early. Asked to bat, Punjab Kings powered by KL Rahul’s 50-ball 90, Deepak Hooda’s 28-ball 64 and Chris Gayle’s 28-ball 40, posted 221/6 in 20 overs.

In a battle of two wicketkeeper captains, Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and asked KL Rahul’s Punjab Kings to bat first. It turned out to be a bad decision as KL Rahul, Chris Gayle and Deepak Hooda ripped apart PBKS bowling at the Wankhede Stadium. In the end, Punjab Kings set a 222-run target for Rajasthan Royals.

As for Playing XI, as predicted, Punjab will field Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, Riley Meredith and Jhye Richardson as their overseas players. For Rajasthan, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Chris Morris and Mustafizur Rahman will be their overseas players.

Punjab Kings were off to a good start or as it seemed. But Mayank Agarwal was dismissed in the 3rd over after he tried to take on debutant Chetan Sakariya. Then on, Chris Gayle and KL Rahul anchored the innings. However, after bringing up their 67-run partnership, Gayle was dismissed by Riyan Parag.

Then on, Deepak Hooda joined Rahul for a brilliant partnership, taking apart Rajasthan’s bowling. He brought up his half-century off just 20 balls as the duo put up a 105-run partnership. After he was dismissed, Rahul continued his red-hot form, slamming 91 off 50 balls. In the end some fine bowling from Chetan Sakariya in the last over restricted Punjab Kings to 221/6 in 20 overs.

RR vs PBKS Live score: Rajasthan will be banking on their explosive hitters Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler to give them a strong start. However, all eyes would be on RR’s million-dollar baby Chris Morris. The INR 16.25 crore all-rounder will lead the pace attack in absence of injured Jofra Archer. Notably, RR will be without David Miller and Mustafizur Rahman as the duo complete their quarantine today.

Meanwhile, Punjab, despite their strong comeback, the inability to close out games led to their early exit in 2020 – the team being let down by some of the big overseas names. The pacers leaked runs in the death overs, the middle order lacked runs, adding pressure on the top order.

The lack of batting depth had also hurt them. In order to make amends, the Kings have amped up its pace attack with INR 14 crore Jhye Richardson and INR 8 crore Riley Meredith. Also, with skipper Rahul and Mayank Agarwal taking the opening slots, Chris Gayle will resume his place at No 3.
